The Vision and Know-How to Win

Meet Jenny

Jenny Donohue is a battle-tested communicator with a proven track record deploying smart strategies and expert execution to build and defend reputations, win campaigns, influence policy, navigate Congressional inquiries, and deliver results.

She launched Donohue Strategies with nearly two decades of experience in high-stakes political and policy communications across campaigns, both Houses of Congress, the Department of Justice, and a financial regulator with global jurisdiction.

Jenny has led all aspects of a successful communications operation, aligning internal and external communications, media relations, executive positioning, stakeholder engagement, and government relations.

She has effectively prepared leaders for political debates, Congressional testimony, high-stakes media interviews, and high-profile events. Her extensive media relations experience includes working with national, local, and international news outlets to shape coverage and deliver positive outcomes.

At Donohue Strategies, Jenny puts her broad range of experience to work for you – delivering both the vision and know-how to win.

Experience

Jenny spent over a decade on Capitol Hill, including as Executive Director of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) and Communications Director for U.S. Senator and Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee Chair Sherrod Brown.

As Executive Director of the DPCC, she helped House Democrats rewrite the playbook for effective communications in the face of unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic; orchestrated more than 1,000 virtual and in-person press events across the country to promote the Democratic agenda; hosted regular strategy sessions for Members and staff on message development, polling, media training, and more; and provided one-on-one strategic support and message guidance to Member offices, Committees and Caucuses.

As Communications Director for Senator Brown, Jenny played a pivotal role in helping the Senator develop and deploy the “Dignity of Work” message that became the theme of his successful 2018 re-election campaign and subsequent “Dignity of Work Tour” of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada as he contemplated running for President.

Jenny took the skills she honed on Capitol Hill to the Executive Branch in 2022, first at the Department of Justice – where she helped prepare the second-ever ATF nominee to be successfully confirmed by the U.S. Senate – and most recently at the U.S. audit regulator, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB).

At the PCAOB, Jenny built and led a successful communications and engagement operation, serving as senior advisor to the Chair during a time of historic achievement – including opening access to inspect and investigate in China for the first time in history, finalizing a record number of new regulations, announcing historic enforcement action around the globe, and reimagining stakeholder engagement, all while making a measurable improvement in staff morale. In addition to managing external and internal communications, Jenny oversaw an active government relations strategy, prepared the Chair for testimony before Congress and the SEC, and was instrumental in the successful campaign to save the regulator when Congressional legislation threatened to eliminate it.

Jenny began her career in the communications office of U.S. Senator and Chair of the Finance Committee Max Baucus during the writing and passage of the Affordable Care Act.
